The lyrics of this song, on my album “Howl”, are pretty self-explanatory. It’s on my album, “Howl”, and it’s about being introverted, keeping to yourself, and opting out and saying “no” when you don’t want to get involved. It’s about staying sane in a very crazy, noisy world. It expresses how I often feel. I think of myself as a Cat That Walks By Itself, and I very often just say “no” to social interactions.
Lyrics
You do you; In an ideal life
sides should not have to be picked.
Mind your business, step aside:
Present company excluded.
There are a thousand ways of saying “no”.
Pick a language and then say so.
You go ahead, do what you do
But that old chestnut, man
Just leave me out I’m telling you
People can be so deluded
Or not – whatever, but
Present company, excluded
Think about it.
Before you speak your mind now,
spare yourself anxiety,
sit tight
don’t make a sound
Present company, excluded.
Think about it.
There are a thousand ways of saying “no”.
Pick a language and then say so:
“I don’t want my profile skewered.”
“Grazie, ma no grazie.”
Really - how can I say this more clearly?
Here it is in French:
“C’est non de ma part, merci.”
I’m opting out.
Present company, excluded.
