I’ve always thought that if someone shows that they don’t like cats (well, all animals, but particularly cats) then I probably won’t like them. I have a suspicion that they have a nasty streak in them, because what’s not to like about a cat? Even if you’re allergic to them? Nothing. Cats are delightful.
So the last song on my album “Ticket to Mars” (which is now on Apple Music, Spotify, etc. – yay!) is called “Minnaloushe and the Moon”, and it’s about a black cat that walks around at night and looks at the moon. And, being a cat, the pupils of his eyes change shape, like the moon does too. But Minnaloushe is not a human who busts his brain with thoughts of space travel and moon landings. Minnaloushe is just bothered by how bright the moon is.

It’s a gentle little song, beautifully sung by Dawn Lief, and it has a dance rhythm, since the question is; if Minnaloushe and the moon are so alike, would they dance together? There’s a fanciful thought – a cat dancing with the moon. As always, Luke Garfield has done an excellent job of fine-tuning the rhythms and counter-rhythms in the song, and really making Dawn’s vocals shine.
